ACUE offers certification pathways that focus on evidence-based teaching practices. Certification programs cover topics such as:

• Creating productive learning environments
• Promoting active learning
• Designing learner-centered courses
• Supporting student engagement and success

Each certification requires completion of four courses, and each course takes 7-8 weeks to complete with a time commitment of approximately 3-5 hours. Faculty who complete certification requirements earn a nationally recognized credential endorsed by the American Council on Education (ACE). There are three certifications available:

• A nationally recognized 4-course certification that empowers you to master evidence-based practices in active learning, course design, classroom environment, and creating lifelong learners
• Designed for faculty teaching in any online format, this 4-course pathway helps you master digital active learning, virtual environments, and online student engagement.
• Specialized for nursing faculty, this course is built on ACUE’s proven framework with discipline-specific applications aligned to AACN Essentials. Participants earn 48 hours of CE credits that advance both teaching excellence and career development.

Faculty can take any number of courses in any order; a commitment to certification is not required to enroll in any of the courses. To see enrollment deadlines and sign up for a course, please contact Jean Woodson.

ACUE Commons

is an online professional learning community. Users can:

• Connect with higher education professionals from other institutions in topical communities of practice
• Participate in discussion groups
• Access professional development resources
• Attend virtual events and webinars
• Continue accessing course materials and learning resources

Commons serves as a central location for ACUE learning, networking, and professional development activities. The Commons platform houses all of the resources described below.

Quick Studies

are self-paced courses focused on specific higher education topics. These short learning modules provide practical strategies and information that can be applied immediately.

Topics may include:

• Artificial intelligence in education
• Student well-being
• Critical thinking
• Authentic assessment
• Career readiness
• Inclusive teaching practices
• Media literacy

Most Quick Studies can be completed in approximately one hour.

Badges and Endorsements

Quick Studies and other learning resources can lead to digital badges or endorsements that recognize completion of professional development activities and specialized areas of study. For example, faculty can receive an endorsement in Holistic Student Support.

Resource Library

ACUE provides a collection of teaching and learning resources, including instructional guides, implementation tools, recordings, articles, and evidence-based practices related to student success and effective teaching.

Events and Webinars

ACUE regularly hosts virtual events featuring higher education practitioners and subject matter experts. Topics commonly focus on teaching and learning, student success, instructional technology, and emerging issues in higher education.

Effective Teaching 101: Starting the Semester Strong (ET101) is a self-paced online course that can be completed in approximately 5 to 8 hours and introduces five evidence-based teaching practices focused on starting a course effectively, building student engagement, establishing expectations, facilitating active learning, and checking for student understanding.
